Tivoli Artists Gallery will hold Closely Scene from May 6 - 29. The show will feature the works of Ted Braggins and Melissa Katzman Braggins in a variety of media. The artists will be exhibiting original prints including monotypes, and lithographs along with collage, hand-made paper pieces and ceramics. The two-dimensional images were hand-printed at their graphic arts workshop, Pondside Press in Rhinebeck. They have operated the print studio since 1985 where they have printed their own and the work of other artists. The three-dimensional pieces were created at the Margie Hughto Studio in Jamesville NY, and include ceramic wall pieces, bowls, platters, and paper pulp pieces.
Much of the work in the show depicts natural subject matter such as florals, birds and garden passages as well as area landscapes of the Hudson Valley. Ted enjoys working mostly in monotype and is showing works of the view shed from our region. Many images may be recognizable to viewers of the exhibit, for example, Hudson from Linwood, Cedar Heights Orchard, and Tivoli from West Kerley Corners Road. While Ted leans toward long views, Melissa shows close-ups of nature in works such as Waters Edge, Lucent Summer, and Understory. Many works incorporate images of hummingbirds, bluebirds, cardinals with flowers such as roses and anemones.
In other pieces, Melissa is showing combined media that include ceramics, stenciling and monotype on wood panels depicting organic and lyrical natural images. Ted is also exhibiting expressive pieces from the Empty Chair and the Black Flag series of works.
Viewers to TAG will enjoy seeing a range of printmaking methods in this exhibit while having an opportunity to see those methods pushed into ceramics and hand-made paper pulp works. Closely Scene exhibits pieces in a large format from 30” x 60” works to those in the 8” x 10” range, and also includes notecards and small watercolors. Tivoli Artists Gallery will host an opening and meet the artists reception on Saturday, May 7 from 5-7 PM. Please come out and enjoy this vibrant, naturally colorful, and personal exhibit.
