Vaea Dang is a French artist based in the Hudson Valley. Raised in French Polynesia, her island childhood gave her a particular insight into questions of identity, time and sentimental attachment to places, as if nothing was taken for granted, and that one should marvel at the little things.

I’m a visual artist, urban sketcher, writer, and sculptor, moving between two approaches—like a Yin and Yang dance.
I build delicate, layered works with ink, watercolor, collage, and stitching. Standing still, slowing down, I notice things I’d miss if I rushed. Yin.
Journaling is at the heart of my practice. Through mixed media art and storytelling, I try to capture the fragility of moments—the atmosphere, energy, and memory of a place. Yang.
My sketchbooks are time machines. They hold stories, traces of places and people—proof that these moments happened, that they mattered.
Somewhere between art and social reflection, my work is about paying attention. It’s a way to question how we see the world and how we move through it. I want my art to spark something—to make us pause, rethink, and notice.
