Marie Cole
-
Marie Cole is best known for her large landscapes of the Hudson Valley - the farmland and barns, mountains and river, as well as the salt marshes and waterways of the Delaware Bay
and Cape Cod. Her intimate works in pastel and printmaking focus on the same themes but in a smaller format. Her studio and home are by the Hudson River in a renovated warehouse in Germantown, NY. -
I adore vibrant colors, the roiling storms, panoramic sunsets and ever-changing seasons in the Hudson Valley. The salt marshes and waterways of the Delaware Bay and Cape Cod add another level of water and weather. They continue to provide equal parts inspiration and challenge to capture their fierce beauty. I try to push material boundaries and am drawn to process. All of the approaches I choose inform new directions and results. I love the paint, thick or thin, the viscosity, piled up in layers or scraped down to the canvas, creating texture or smoothness. Paint creates light and shadow, yet, when you look closely, it is still just paint.
